Personalities from CBS Sports and CBS News will briefly trade places on Super Bowl Sunday.
CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric will contribute to the network’s coverage of Super Bowl XLIV. Couric will serve as a special contributor to The Super Bowl Today, “[providing] a special report” during the four-hour pregame show.
Earlier on Super Sunday, CBS NFL broadcasters Jim Nantz, Phil Simms and Shannon Sharpe will make appearances on the CBS Sunday morning news program Face the Nation.
Super Bowl Sunday has typically resulted in a co-mingling between the sports and news divisions. Last year, portions of NBC’s The Today Show aired from the site of Super Bowl XLIII, with news personalities Meredith Vieira, Al Roker and Ann Curry covering the event. The Super Bowl pregame also included Matt Lauer interviewing President Barack Obama.
The previous year, FOX aired a special three-hour block of election-related programming prior to its Super Bowl pregame, featuring hosts Shepard Smith and Chris Wallace.
