Comedy Central and The Onion are joining forces for a new satirical series about the world of sports.
The Onion Sports Network has been picked up for a 10-episode run on Comedy Central. The half-hour show, set to debut in early 2011, “will take on the whole universe of modern sports” and “authentically [replicate] the flashy look, breathless pace and general insanity of modern sports coverage.”
The show is based on the Onion Sports Network segments that already air on The Onion website.
This comes years after Comedy Central developed a pilot for a sports-version of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. That show never came to fruition.
