The penultimate tournament of the FedEx Cup was far from a ratings hit on NBC last weekend.
Final round coverage of the BMW Championship drew a 1.3 final rating and 1.889 million viewers on NBC last Sunday, down 44% in ratings and 45% in viewership from last year (2.3, 3.428 mil), when Tiger Woods won the event.
Woods finished in a tie for 15th this year.
Though down from last year, Sunday’s final round was up 8% in ratings from 2008 (1.2), when Woods did not play due to injury.
This continues the general trend of golf ratings being down significantly from last year (when Woods won several late season tournaments), but up from or even with 2008 (when Woods missed the second half of the season).
On Saturday, third round action drew a 1.1 and 1.477 million viewers — down 48% in ratings from last year (2.1) but up 38% from 2008 (0.8).
