French Open Wrap: Men's Final Highest Rated Since '99

The Men’s Final of the French Open was the highest rated since 1999.

The June 5 Rafael Nadal/Roger Federer French Open Men’s Final earned a 2.1 final rating and 3.126 million viewers on NBC, up 50% in ratings and 68% in viewership from last year (1.4, 1.865M), and up 40% and 41%, respectively, from 2009 (1.5, 2.213M).

Nadal faced Robin Soderling in last year’s final. Federer faced Soderling in 2009.

The match ranks as the highest rated French Open Men’s Final since Agassi/Medvedev in 1999 (3.3), and the most-viewed since at least 2001 (viewership prior to ’02 was not available).

This is the first time since 2002 that any French Open final — Men’s or Women’s — has attracted at least 2% of U.S. television homes.

Meanwhile, the June 4 Li Na/Francesca Schiavone Women’s Final drew a 1.4 and 1.993 million viewers on NBC, flat in ratings and up 4% from last year (1.4, 1.925M), and up 8% and 17%, respectively, from 2009 (1.3, 1.709M).

Schiavone faced Samantha Stosur last year. Svetlana Kuznetsova played Dinara Safina in 2009.

The match ranks as the most-viewed Women’s Final of the French Open since 2008 (2.043M), and the second-most viewed since 2003.
