The season finale of Sunday Night Football scored near-record numbers for NBC.
The Week 17 edition of Sunday Night Football, pitting the Cowboys against the Giants in a battle for the NFC East title, earned a 17.1 overnight rating on NBC — up 36% from Week 17 last year (STL/SEA: 12.6), and up 50% from Week 17 in 2009 (CIN/NYJ: 11.4).
The 17.1 overnight is the third-highest for an NFL regular season game on NBC since the network resumed airing coverage in the 2006-07 season.
In addition, this marks the highest overnight for a Sunday or Monday night regular season NFL game since Week 16 in 1998 (DEN/MIA: 17.4, ABC), and the highest for the final primetime telecast of the season since Week 17 in 1994 (SF/MIN: 19.6, ABC).
Dallas-Ft. Worth was the top market for Sunday’s game (37.1), followed by San Antonio (27.2) and Austin (26.3). New York ranked fourth (25.3), tying Albuquerque (25.3).
