Ratings for last week’s NASCAR Southern 500 were the lowest in more than a decade.
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Southern 500 from Darlington drew a 3.8 final rating last Saturday night, down 7% from last year (4.1), and down 10% from 2010 (4.2).
The 3.8 rating is the lowest for the race since 2000 (3.5, ESPN). As recently as 2005, the race drew a 5.6 rating.
So far this season, eight of the eleven NASCAR Sprint Cup telecasts on FOX have suffered declines in ratings compared to last year. On the bright side — if there is one — five of those declines have been by less than ten percent.
