The 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials continue to outpace 2008.
Coverage of the U.S. Olympic women’s gymnastics trials drew a 5.3 overnight rating on NBC Friday night, according to USA Today, up 47% from taped coverage on a Saturday night in 2008 (3.6).
According to the USA Today report, the 5.3 is the highest for the gymnastics trials since 2000.
Also Friday, swimming coverage drew a 4.0 overnight — up 54% from coverage in 2008 (2.6) that aired on the Fourth of July holiday.
On Saturday, track & field led the night with a 4.5 overnight rating, up 105% from comparable coverage in 2008, which aired in the afternoon (2.2). Earlier in the night, swimming action drew a 3.6, up 20% from 2008 (3.0).
