After a slight increase in overnight ratings, final ratings dropped a tick for NASCAR action from Kansas.
Last Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup STP 400 from Kansas earned a 4.2 final rating and 6.5 million viewers on FOX, down a tick in ratings and 5% in viewership from last year (4.3, 6.8M), and up 8% and 3%, respectively, from the inaugural edition of the race in 2011 (3.9, 6.3M).
The 4.2 rating is the second-lowest of the season for a NASCAR Sprint Cup race, ahead of only the NRA 500 from Texas one week earlier (3.8).
So far this season, half of the eight Sprint Cup races have had declines in ratings compared to last year, though most of the declines have been by less than 10%.
Despite the lower numbers, Sunday’s race finished as the highest rated and most-viewed sporting event of the weekend.
