For the third straight year, overnight ratings were flat for NASCAR Sprint Cup action from Richmond.
Saturday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Toyota Owners 400 from Richmond earned a 3.4 overnight rating on FOX, even with last year, 2011, and 2010 (3.4 each year). The 3.4 is tied as the second-lowest overnight ever for NASCAR Sprint Cup racing on FOX.
The only race to earn a lower overnight was the 2009 Subway Fresh Fit 500 from Phoenix (3.3).
Of note, the two lowest rated NASCAR races of the season in the metered markets — the Richmond race and the April 13 NRA 500 from Texas (3.5) — aired on Saturday nights.
Despite the relatively low numbers, NASCAR still earned the third-best overnight of the weekend for a sports program on broadcast. The only sporting events to do better over the weekend were NBA playoff games on ABC.
