For the third straight week, ESPN carved out a slight increase for NASCAR’s Chase For the Cup.
Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Hollywood Casino 400 from Kansas earned a 2.6 U.S. rating and 4.2 million viewers on ESPN, up 4% in ratings and 7% in viewership from last year (2.5, 3.9M), but flat in both measures compared to 2011 (2.6, 4.2M).
The race ranks as the highest rated and most-viewed of the 2013 Chase For the Cup thus far (four races).
Three of the four Chase races have had increases over last year, with the opener from Chicago the only exception — a race that was delayed by several hours due to rain.
With that said, the 2.6 rating is tied as the third-lowest in the 12-year history of the fall Kansas race. Only last year (2.5) and in 2010 (2.3) did the race earn lower numbers.
