NBCSN earned another solid audience for Formula 1 racing last week.
The Formula 1 Austrian Grand Prix earned 413,000 viewers on NBCSN last Sunday morning, the third-largest audience for F1 racing on the network (dates back to last year). This year’s Austrian Grand Prix was the first edition of the race since 2003.
NBCSN has averaged 377,000 viewers for F1 coverage through Sunday, up 111% from the comparable point last year (179K). Three of the network’s six races have topped last year’s season-high of 354,000 viewers for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Including the two NBC races this season, the average rises to 588,000 viewers — up 43% from last year. NBC’s most recent race, the Canadian Grand Prix, earned the largest F1 audience on any network in seven years.
Despite airing primarily in early morning timeslots, Formula 1 coverage on NBCSN trails IndyCar on the same network by just 5% in viewership (398K to 377K). The top IndyCar audience of the season NBCSN — 424,000 viewers for the Firestone 600 from Texas — ranks behind both this year’s Bahrain Grand Prix (594K) and Spanish Grand Prix (455K).
