A rematch of the NFC Championship Game delivered strong numbers for NBC.
The Week 2 Seahawks/Packers NFL Sunday Night Football game drew a 16.3 overnight rating on NBC, up 16% from Bears/Packers last year (14.0), up 20% from 49ers/Seahawks in 2013 (13.6), and the highest Week 2 SNF overnight since Giants/Cowboys in 2009 (16.5).
All three NFL games on NBC this season have topped a 16.0 overnight rating, the first time in the network’s ten seasons that has taken place.
Despite the big numbers, the Packers’ win was not the day’s top NFL telecast — trailing the Cowboys/Eagles national window on FOX (17.8). It did crush the competing Emmy Awards on FOX by 87% (16.3 to 8.7), especially noteworthy given that FOX stationed its NFL studio coverage from the show in an attempt to boost its ratings.
Milwaukee was the top market for Sunday’s game with a 52.5 rating. Seattle ranked second with a 50.6, the market’s second-best for a Sunday night game on NBC. Rounding out the top five were Portland (25.8), Las Vegas (24.9) and Denver (22.9).
