It may not have been much of a game, but the Cowboys/Eagles rivalry delivered the top overnight rating of the young NFL season.
The Week 2 Cowboys/Eagles NFL national window earned a 17.8 overnight rating on FOX Sunday afternoon, up 22% from coverage featuring Chiefs/Broncos last year (14.6) and even with coverage featuring the Broncos/Giants ‘Manning Bowl’ in 2013. Both of those telecasts aired on CBS.
The Cowboys’ win ranks as the highest rated NFL telecast of the first two weeks in the metered markets, edging the Steelers/Patriots Kickoff Game (17.7). The 17.8 also matches the highest overnight for an NFL game in the first two weeks since Steelers/Broncos in 2012, Peyton Manning‘s Denver debut (18.0).
Earlier in the day, regional action featuring Falcons/Giants in 32% of markets drew a 9.9 overnight — even with last year and down 7% from 2013 (10.7), which again aired on CBS.
