On a college football weekend that featured major SEC action, the ACC and Big Ten helped ABC take the top two spots in the overnights.
The Notre Dame/Clemson Saturday Night Football game drew a 4.8 overnight rating on ABC, up 71% from Notre Dame/Syracuse last year (2.8), up 17% from Wisconsin/Ohio State in 2013 (4.1), and the top college football overnight of the week.
The Tigers’ close win ranks third for the season in the metered markets, trailing only Ohio State/Virginia Tech on Labor Day (6.6) and Oregon/Michigan State five days later (5.0).
Earlier in the day, regional action featuring Ohio State/Indiana drew a 4.5 overnight — up 13% from last year (4.0) and up 137% from 2013 (1.9), which were also regional windows. The telecast, which also included Texas Tech/Baylor, topped the much-hyped Alabama/Georgia game on CBS head-to-head (4.2).
Overall, it ranks fifth for the season in the metered markets. The top six telecasts have aired on ESPN or ABC, with four of the six involving either Alabama or Ohio State.
UPDATE 10/5: Rounding out ABC’s tripleheader, the Noon ET Texas/TCU game drew a 2.0 overnight. There was no comparable window last year.
