The Canadian Open continued a trend of declining ratings for the PGA Tour.
Final round coverage of the PGA Tour Canadian Open earned a 1.4 final rating and 2.1 million viewers on CBS Sunday afternoon, down 18% in ratings and 14% in viewership from last year (1.7, 2.5M) and down 13% and 7%, respectively, from 2014 (1.6, 2.4M).
The 1.4 is the tournament’s lowest final round rating since 2012, when coverage aired opposite the Olympics (0.8). Excluding that year, ratings and viewership were the lowest since 2010 (1.2, 1.7M).
Excluding rainouts, 10 of the past 15 final round telecasts have had a decline in ratings and/or viewership. Of those ten, Sunday’s telecast was just the second to hit a multi-year low.
On Saturday, third round action had a 1.1 and 1.54 million — flat in ratings and up 6% in viewership from last year (1.1, 1.45M) and up 22% and 12%, respectively, from 2014 (0.9, 1.4M).
