Though no match for four years ago, women’s gymnastics delivered strong numbers for the U.S. Olympic Trials.
The final night of the U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Trials earned a 5.0 final rating and 8.6 million viewers on NBC Sunday night, down 15% in ratings and 14% in viewership from 2012 (5.9, 10.0M) but up 28% and 36%, respectively, from 2008 (3.9, 6.3M).
Though down from four years ago, ratings and viewership were the second-best for any U.S. Olympic Trials telecast since 2000, when the same women’s gymnastics competition drew a 7.2 and 11.0 million. The previously mentioned 2012 telecast holds the top spot.
It goes without saying that the telecast also ranks as the highest rated and most-watched of this year’s U.S. Olympic Trials. No other telecast managed to hit a 4.0 rating or six million viewers.
Last Friday, the first night of competition drew a 3.4 and 5.5 million — down 28% in ratings and 30% in viewership from 2012 (4.7, 7.9M) but up 17% and 20%, respectively, from 2008 (2.9, 4.6M).
Among adults 18-49, Sunday’s telecast drew a 2.5 rating (-24%) and Friday’s a 1.4 (-42%).
