Ratings: NFL on FOX, Bedlam, Notre Dame

NFL singleheader ratings fell in Week 9. In other news, the annual “Bedlam” game was less of a draw than usual, and Notre Dame posted an increase on NBC.

NFL Singleheader Ratings Down in Week 9

Last Sunday’s Week 9 NFL singleheader — Falcons-Panthers or Rams-Giants in most markets — had an 8.4 rating and 14.2 million viewers on FOX, down 28% in ratings and 29% in viewership from last year (feat. DAL-CLE: 11.6, 20.2M) and down a third and 32% respectively from 2015 (feat. GB-CAR: 12.5, 20.9M).

Bedlam Game Big For FS1, Low For Rivalry

Last Saturday’s Oklahoma-Oklahoma State “Bedlam” game had a 1.4 rating and 2.5 million viewers on FS1, up 289% in ratings and 320% in viewership from Oregon State-Stanford in the same window last year (0.37, 592K), and the network’s highest rated and most-watched game all season.

Compared to previous “Bedlam” games, this year’s matchup fell 55% in ratings and 48% in viewership from last year on the FOX broadcast network (3.1, 4.8M) and 50% and 48% respectively from 2015 on ABC (2.8, 4.8M). It was the lowest rated and least-watched game between the rivals since their last meeting on FS1 in 2014 (0.7, 1.1M).

On the FOX broadcast network, Penn State-Michigan State had a 1.9 and 3.1 million, Minnesota-Michigan scored a 1.7 and 2.9 million in primetime, and portions of Stanford-Washington State scored a 1.3 and 2.0 million.

NBC Posts Gain for Notre Dame

NBC scored a 1.2 rating and 1.90 million viewers for Wake Forest-Notre Dame last weekend, up 20% in ratings and 26% in viewership from Notre Dame’s sixth home game last year, against Army (1.0, 1.5M), but down a tick and 2% respectively from the sixth home game in 2015, also against Wake Forest (1.3, 1.94M).

Notre Dame’s win was the lowest rated college football game of the weekend on broadcast television. The week ten college football ratings charts are available here.
