A Stanley Cup Final rematch lifted NHL ratings double-digits on NBCSN. Also: ratings for Thursday college football, NASCAR’s Xfinity Series and ESPN’s “Basketball: A Love Story” series.
SCF Rematch Up Double-Digits on NBCSN
Wednesday’s Golden Knights-Capitals NHL regular season game, a rematch of last season’s Stanley Cup Final, had a 0.32 rating and 543,000 viewers on NBCSN — up 10% in ratings and 21% in viewership from Penguins-Capitals last year (0.29, 448K).
In other action, Sharks-Flyers drew 249,000 viewers on Tuesday night (-3%).
TTU-TCU Best Thursday Game Since Opening Night
Thursday’s Texas Tech-TCU college football game scored a 0.8 rating and 1.23 million viewers on ESPN, marking the highest rated and most-watched Thursday night game since opening night (Northwestern-Purdue: 1.0, 1.74M). Last year’s scheduled Georgia Tech-Miami game was postponed.
NASCAR Xfinity Series Hits Season-Low
Last Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race from Dover (Del.) earned a 0.43 rating and 625,000 viewers on NBCSN, down 20% in ratings and 25% in viewership from last year (0.54, 829K). It was the lowest rated and least-watched Xfinity Series race this season.
Quiet Start For “Basketball: A Love Story”
The first two episodes of ESPN’s documentary series “Basketball: A Love Story” averaged a 0.38 rating and 555,000 viewers Tuesday. It was the first documentary to premiere on the flagship ESPN network since the 30 For 30 “The Two Bills” back in February (subsequent “30 For 30” documentaries have premiered on ESPN+). Compared to “The Two Bills,” ratings and viewership declined from a 0.8 and 1.3 million.
Keep in mind Tuesday’s premiere faced competition from a Red Sox-Yankees playoff game on TBS.
