Yet again, Saturday night NASCAR action put up mediocre numbers on FOX.
Saturday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Southern 500 from Darlington (SC) drew a 3.5 overnight rating on FOX, even with both last year and 2011 (3.5) as the lowest overnight for the race since it moved to FOX in 2001.
The race tied the April 13 NRA 500 from Texas as the second-lowest rated Sprint Cup race of the season in the metered markets. Only the Toyota Owners 400 from Richmond (3.4) drew a lower overnight.
Of note, the NRA 500, Toyota Owners 400 and Southern 500 each aired on a Saturday night.
The Southern 500 was comfortably outdrawn by ABC’s Knicks/Pacers NBA playoff game (4.3). However, those results are likely to flip when the final numbers are released later this week.
