Ratings inched up for the season’s final Sprint Cup race on FOX.
Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup FedEx 400 from Dover earned a 3.8 final rating and 6.0 million viewers on FOX, up a tick in ratings and 5% in viewership from last year (3.7, 5.7M), but down 14% and 19%, respectively, from 2011 (4.4, 7.4M).
Excluding rainouts, this marks the fourth-lowest rated FedEx 400 since 2004 (3.4). Only the 2006, 2010 and 2012 races (3.7 each year) earned lower numbers.
In addition, the 3.8 rating is tied as the second-lowest of the season for NASCAR on FOX, ahead of only the Toyota Owners 400 from Richmond (3.7).
Still, Sunday’s race was one of just five this season to have an increase over last year — joining the Daytona 500 (+24%), the Auto Club 500 from Fontana (+18%), the STP Gas Booster 400 from Martinsville (+2%), and the previously mentioned Richmond race (+3%).
The 13-race NASCAR on FOX package averaged a 4.8 rating and 7.8 million viewers, flat in ratings and down 1% in viewership from last year (4.8, 7.9M).
Other than the Daytona 500, the network’s top race of the season was the Subway Fresh Fit 500 from Phoenix (5.6, 9.1M). On the flip side, the lowest rated race of the season was Richmond, and the least-viewed was the Southern 500 from Darlington (5.9M).
