The final event in the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup was held up well enough compared to last year.
Final round coverage of The Tour Championship, the final event in the PGA Tour FedEx Cup, earned a 1.4 final rating and 2.0 million viewers on NBC last Sunday — flat in ratings and viewership compared to last year, but down 30% and 28%, respectively, from 2012 (2.0, 2.8M).
The 1.4 rating is tied as the second-lowest for final round coverage of the event since the FedEx Cup began in 2007, matching last year and 2011.
Third round action last Saturday drew a 1.5 and 2.1 million, up 25% in ratings and 31% in viewership from last year (1.2, 1.6M) but down 25% in both measures from 2012 (2.0, 2.8M). The telecast marked the first and only increase for a FedEx Cup telecast on broadcast this year.
Overall, six of the eight FedEx Cup telecasts on CBS and NBC had declines in ratings and viewership compared to last year, and five of those six were down by double-digits.
