The Chase for the Cup got off to an awful start on ABC.
Sunday’s Sylvania 300, the first race of NASCAR’s Chase for the Cup, drew a measly 2.5 overnight rating on ABC — down 19% from a 3.1 last year, down 11% from a 2.8 in ’07, and the lowest overnight rating ever for a Chase for the Cup race on broadcast television.
The 2.5 also ranks as the lowest overnight for the Sylvania 300 on broadcast television (2001-02, 2007-09), and the lowest overnight for a NASCAR race on ABC since the net resumed airing races in ’07.
