Two weeks after his last ESPN assignment, Mike Tirico will make his NBC Sports debut at a familiar event.
NBC Sports announced Wednesday that Tirico will anchor coverage of the British Open on NBC and Golf Channel, continuing his association with an event that he began hosting for ESPN/ABC in 1997. It will be his first assignment since officially joining NBC on July 1.
Tirico will also serve as one of four daytime anchors for the Summer Olympics on the NBC broadcast network, along with Al Michaels, Dan Patrick and Rebecca Lowe, and call NBC’s two NFL preseason games alongside Cris Collinsworth.
There was no immediate word on Tirico’s assignments beyond this summer. When news first broke that he would join NBC, it was widely reported that he would call play-by-play on the network’s Thursday Night Football games, a proposition that seems likely given his NFL preseason assignments.
