With just one race left on the Fox portion of the schedule, NASCAR ratings have yet to increase this season.
NASCAR Cup Series racing from Michigan earned 3.1 million viewers on Fox Sports 1 Sunday afternoon, down 9% from last year (3.45M), down 11% from 2015 (3.52M) and the smallest audience for the race since at least 2000.
Ratings fell 16% from last year (from 2.19 to 1.85) to the lowest level since at least 1996.
In what was supposed to be a rebound season for NASCAR, the numbers have been even worse than last year. All 14 Cup Series races have set or tied a multi-year ratings low and 11 have done so in viewership. Moreover, 12 races have at least tied a decade-plus or all-time ratings low, and 10 have done so in viewership.
On a barren sports weekend, NASCAR was the top draw outside of the U.S. Open. In adults 18-49, however, its 0.5 rating trailed Saturday night’s MLB on FOX (0.6).
