Halloween night may be nightmarish for NBA fans watching ESPN.
The NBA studio team for ESPN on October 31 is rumored to be host Stuart Scott with analysts Bill Walton and Stephen A. Smith, according to posters at DBSForums.com. The potential grouping of Scott, Walton and Smith may be a combination of three of the most divisive personalities in all of sports media.
While ESPN has not officially released its NBA announcing schedule — it may do so in the next few days — the team of Scott, Walton and Smith could be the trio ESPN goes with for the balance of the season. A listing of NBA announcers for the first month of the season does not include Walton, which could indicate a move to the studio for the long-time NBA analyst.
That same listing of announcers reveals that ESPN will use Dan Shulman as a play-by-play voice for at least the first month of the season. Shulman will be paired with Hubie Brown. Mike Breen, meanwhile, is slated to work the first month of the season with Jeff Van Gundy in a two-man booth; expect Mark Jackson to join the duo for ABC games only during the regular season.
More complete details on ESPN/ABC NBA announcing teams will become available in the upcoming days.
