A fairly mediocre season of NASCAR on FOX ended on a low note Sunday.
The NASCAR Sprint Cup FedEx 400 from Dover earned a 3.5 overnight rating on FOX Sunday afternoon, down a tick from last year (3.6), and down 8% from 2011 (3.8).
Excluding rainouts, the 3.5 overnight is the lowest for the spring Dover race since it moved to FOX in 2007.
The race also tied the April 13 NRA 500 from Texas and the May 11 Southern 500 from Darlington as the second-lowest rated of the season in the metered markets. Only the April 27 Toyota Owners 400 from Richmond (3.4) earned a lower overnight.
Despite the lower numbers, the FedEx 400 ranked as the top sporting event of the weekend on broadcast (an NBA playoff game on cable network TNT had a 6.2 overnight).
