I don’t know if this might in any way be a factor to the ratings, but my
biggest pet peeve with FOX Sports is that their telecasts are becoming
more and more like an infomercial billboard during the races. Sponsors
plugs and popups left and right throughout the race, and to me, it’s
distracting. I’ve noticed that they’re doing the very same thing in their baseball telecasts as well. I honestly get furious with their coverage because of
this.

I work in this sport & its so sad to see it going down like it is ..I see the problem starting with these drivers , they have become a bunch of spoiled little rich kids . If they don’t put on a show , the fans will dictate there future . Last i checked it is still an entertainment sport & when you quit entertaining …they will leave …Brian France needs Badly another Dale Earnhardt . A driver who isn’t afraid to wear his emotions on his sleeve & someone for the fans to relate too& those are STILL the blue collar fans …They cannot relate to these KIDS whose PARENTS paid there way here …Not on credentials , but $$$$…As for waltrip …my god ENOUGH is ENOUGH !!! GO HOME !!! For the love of god !!

  Good points,its one long sales pitch from beginning to end. and I sponsor a car in another series so can totally agree with the drivers thing you mentioned.. But theres a lot involved. The TV broadcast insults my intelligence, the radio broadcast is hyping up a race that isnt that interesting, so what to do? We older people hate to admit it but theyve got to bring in the younger fan, and the younger generation isnt into cars like we were. Think the sport is screwed

While I would be the first to also jump on the “Dump Waltrips” bus I think the problem lies with the teams. Multiple sponsors are the problem, specifically multiple “paint” jobs during the season. How can you wear your teams colors when they change from week to week? Can you tell, at a glance, without a program, who sponsored the #14 last week? Do you care? What color combination was it? Does a Ferrari F1 get lost visually in a race because of it’s color? If you can’t get annual sponsors to place a sticker on your car for the entire season then they need to get back up into the stands. Maybe one color combination on the car for the season will bring the fans back. Or maybe the implosion factor is well underway in NASCAR.

While its easy to dislike the Waltrips, and therefore the Fox broadcast there is soething else going on.Something much more basic. What is it? I don’t know, nor do any of the smart people in either Nascar or the networks. But this trend has been developing for years. Perhaps its simply that is the true level of the sport.

Ratings are lower because Fox removed Speed which provided lead in for various races. FS1 and FS2 race related coverage is almost nil compared to what Speed provided. Ratings probally would be worse if Earnhardt wasn’t doing good.. TV programming always used Lead in shows for various programming. NO MORE SPEED, No lead in programming. NO SPEED SHOW is common item in all of this…

I listen on the radio…MRN broadcast was great…FOX has great video and Mike Joy is still good but the rest of the broadcast makes my ears bleed.
