For the second straight race, NASCAR on FOX earned its lowest overnight ever.
Saturday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race from Richmond earned a 3.0 overnight rating on FOX, according to ShowBuzz Daily — the lowest overnight ever for a Sprint Cup telecast on FOX. The previous low was set just one race earlier, a 3.2 at Darlington.
The 3.0 overnight marks a 12% decline from each of the previous four years, when the Richmond race held steady at a 3.4.
Seven of the eight lowest rated Sprint Cup races on FOX in the metered markets have aired on Saturday nights, and five of the eight have taken place from Richmond.
It has not been a great season for NASCAR on FOX. In addition to earning its two lowest NASCAR overnights ever, FOX also earned its lowest overnights at Daytona, Phoenix*, Martinsville and Las Vegas, and earned its second-lowest overnight at Fontana.
* The Phoenix race earned the lowest overnight for the second race of the season since FOX acquired rights. Previously, the second race of the season took place from Fontana (2005-10) and Rockingham (prior to 2005).
