The NHL on NBC scored an uptick in the metered markets. In other news, CBS and FOX both posted declines for college hoops, and NBC scored its lowest Premier League overnight of the season.
NBC Sees Uptick For Super Bowl Sunday NHL
- The Flyers/Capitals NHL regular season game scored a 0.9 overnight rating on NBC Sunday afternoon, up a tick from Red Wings/Capitals in 2014 (0.8) but down 25% from Penguins/Capitals in 2013. NBC did not air a Super Bowl Sunday game last year.
Overnights Drop For MSU/Michigan Hoops
- Michigan State/Michigan college basketball scored a 1.1 overnight rating on CBS Saturday afternoon, down 15% from Notre Dame/Duke last year (1.3) but up 22% from Butler/Georgetown in 2014 (0.9). Florida/Kentucky had a 1.2 later in the day; there were no comparable games last year or in ’14. Over on FOX, Arizona/Washington earned a 0.5 overnight — down 29% from last year’s Arizona/Arizona State matchup (0.7).
Season-Low Overnight For EPL on NBC
- NBC drew a 0.6 overnight rating for Saturday’s Southampton/West Ham English Premier League match, tying the network’s lowest overnight of the season (19 telecasts). Going out to the second tenth, the 0.56 overnight is a season-low behind Watford/Arsenal in October (0.64). In a rarity, NBC’s match was not the highest rated of the week in the metered markets — trailing Chelsea/Manchester United on NBCSN Sunday morning (0.60 to 0.56).
