NASCAR’s Xfinity and Truck Series both had declines at Daytona. In other news, it was an up-and-down weekend for college hoops on CBS, and ESPN posted a pair of declines for Friday NBA action.
NASCAR Xfinity, Truck Races Down at Daytona
- NASCAR Xfinity Series racing from Daytona earned a 1.3 overnight rating on Fox Sports 1 Saturday afternoon, down 22% from last year (1.7) but still the network’s second-highest overnight ever for the series (11 telecasts dating back to last year). On Friday, the Truck Series race at Daytona had a 0.9 final rating and 1.4 million viewers, down a tick and 7%, respectively, from last year (1.0, 1.6M).
College Hoops Mixed on CBS, Flat on FOX
- Michigan/Maryland college basketball scored a 1.4 overnight rating on CBS Sunday afternoon, down a tick from Ohio State/Michigan last year (1.5). Overnights on the comparable weekend in 2014 were not available. Miami/North Carolina scored a 1.0 the previous day, up 43% from last year’s Florida/LSU game (0.7). Over on FOX, Xavier/Georgetown (0.4) and Butler/Villanova (0.5) were both even with last year’s comparable Seton Hall/St. John’s and Villanova/Marquette games.
Double-Digit Drop For ESPN NBA Doubleheader
- Friday’s Pacers/Thunder NBA regular season game had a 0.9 final rating and 1.3 million viewers on ESPN, down 18% in ratings and 19% in viewership from Cavaliers/Wizards last year (1.1, 1.6M) and up 29% in both measures from Nuggets/Bulls in 2014 (0.7, 1.0M). The Celtics/Jazz nightcap scored a 0.7 and 1.1 million, down 46% in ratings and 47% in viewership from Spurs/Warriors last year (1.3, 1.9M) and down 22% and 24%, respectively, from Celtics/Lakers in ’14 (0.9, 1.4M). Both games trailed Bellator 149 on Spike TV in ratings (1.2), viewership (2.0M) and adults 18-49 (1.0 to 0.5).
